Indra - Tripura Sundari - Eagle Music (2007)

2 tracks. Running time 71:59

Tripura Sundari is the third of twelve CDs in the Tantric Celebration series, the aim of which is to lead one into a meditative state of consciousness. The album is divided into two tracks, one of which is a whopping fifty minutes long!

First up is the epic “Elixir”. A variety of siren like refrains hypnotically stutter across the soundscape while rhythmically tinkling bell tones add to the atmosphere. A bubbling sequence begins the development of this piece then later in a vaguely voice tinged haunting synth pad can be heard. The track continues to gradually evolve as new sounds come in while some earlier ones change shape.

The second track “Casyopea” is much shorter at twenty minutes and is structured around rhythmic sequencing which repeatedly cartwheels across the soundscape. A slow build up of intensity and pace maintains listener interest and along the way varying yet brief adornments and melodies are added.

A lot of Indra's music is enjoyable but I do wonder if he'd be better cutting down the quantity of his releases in order to spend more time on each one. It's an old debate about whether some artists sacrifice quality for quantity, and one with some merit.

I can't say that Tripura Sundari put me into a meditative state, maybe because I don't get much chance for undistracted listening these days. Nevertheless it's a pleasing enough work, if a bit protracted, that has some nice hypnotic passages.
