Top ten list of albums first heard in 2006

This has been yet another good year musically, especially in the EM and ambient genres. Here's my top ten list of CDs first heard this year (not necessarily released this year), in no particular order:

Hammock - Raising your voice ... trying to stop an echo

Heart wrenching stretched out electric guitars in Hammock's inimitable style.

Dan Pound - Solar Nexus

Dynamic "shamanistic spacemusic" unlike anything I've heard before.

Chris Bocast - Through the Airlock

A modern classic of spacemusic.

Amient - Geometric

A totally enjoyable album with exotic flavouring.

Paul Avgerinos - Gnosis

Spiritual new age ambience that should appeal to all lovers of quality music.

Satori - For Relaxation

A superb mix of environmental sounds and reflective new age music.

Jon Jenkins - Beyond City Light

Great floating/drifting ambience coupled with percussive rhythms.

Winston Giles Orchestra - Soundtracks for Sunrise

Sunny and upbeat music brimming with rhythm and melody plus a sense of fun.

Indra - Ocean of Silence

A peaceful journey through meditative landscapes of the mind.

Drifting in Silence - Ladderdown

A brilliant interplay of ambient tone poems and rhythmic groove pieces.

Also worth special mention are the following albums either yet to be reviewed or which weren't on my review pile:

Diatonis - Perception

More atmospheric ambience from a virtuoso in the highly processed guitar genre.

Moonbooter - Teralogica

Melodic and rhythmic EM from Bernd Scholl.
