16 tracks. Running time 73:04
Terra Del Sol was formed by producer Alberto Hauss (recently encountered under the moniker Freud) and this is the third album in the Selection series. It's a collection of chillout tracks by Hauss and others; the style is laid back and incorporates elements from various cultures. The second track “Soundchips” is a prime example of the relaxed yet inspirational nature of much of this album. An easy flowing piano melody coupled with an electronically filtered female voice acts as a prelude to a chittering rhythm. Other rhythmic elements come in and an Arabesque flutey melody adds a touch of exoticism. It's not hard to imagine sitting in an Egyptian coffee shop and watching the busy world go buy. Though the name Terra Del Sol and the CD cover leads one to imagine sun drenched lazy holidays the tracks “Spacebeach part I” and “Spacebeach part II” hint at more galactic destinations. In the first of these we hear distorted vocal excerpts from the moon landings against a percussive groove, assorted effects, and brief wordless vocals. This track manages to be relaxed, upbeat, and fun all at the same time! Listening to the album I was struck by how this would be ideal holiday listening. You could be sitting in a bar, on a beach, or just walking down a street in a tourist destination and the music would suit the atmosphere. The instrumentation maintains a good balance between acoustic and electronic, and in some tracks there are vocals adding an understated chic to the mood. There's no doubt that Selection Three is a wonderful collection of chilled out grooves and rhythms fused with musical flavours from around the globe. It could bring a feeling of sunny warmth into bleak winter days or enhance one's mood when summer is here. |
