Every now and then I rediscover some old favourites. Recently I downloaded Tangerine Dream's Tyger and Logos onto my Walkman for listening during the boring hours at work. Both are classics in my opinion, though the use of lyrics on Tyger may well have alienated many TD fans at the time. That's a shame because the female singer has a great voice and the words taken from William Blake's poems adds a deeper dimension. And the track “Alchemy of the Heart” has one of the best extended denouements on any album of electronic music.
It's at this time of year that I especially like listening to easily flowing chill music ideal for accompanying a lazy sunny day and dreaming of exotic climes when the weather is dismal – which it's been in England for a second summer running. Here's my short virtual album of this music: The Essence – Wunderland – The Essence Ian Bouras – Buttercup – A Cure for Reality David Lowe – Treasure Islands - Wild Caribbean Charlie North – North by North East – Find Your Own Space Last year I announced that I'd be cutting back on reviewing during 2008. After a stint as a reviewer lasting around 7 years I'm now hanging up my reviewer's hat so I can have more spare time to concentrate on other writing projects. I want to say a big THANKYOU to everyone who has stopped by my site, and to all the artists and labels who have sent me music. Although reviewing has occasionally been a chore I've mostly enjoyed it and hope I've helped spread the word about the wealth of music out there. Happy listening! |
