Even reviewers supplied with a good range of albums can still find themselves with much music to discover. Thanks to the recommendation feature over at Amazon's UK emporium I'm now in possession of Ulrich Schnauss' Far Away Trains Passing By. Lots of grooves, bright electronic sounds, and pretty melodies – ahh, bliss.
A recent visit to the Hypnos website uncovered a release by Rigel Orionis – the nom de plume of long time reviewer, and master of stilted English, Jim Brenholts. After several collaborations with established ambient musicians he's taken the plunge and created his first solo album called Night Heat. A listen of the CD samples suggests that Alan Lockett has hit the nail on the head: “25 minutes of moderately evocative atmospherics are spread wafer-thin over 80 minutes of exploring the thin line between Ambient Expanse and self-indulgent soundtool fiddle”.
It's the 1970s and young kid whose musical taste extends to the likes of Showaddywaddy is soon to have his musical landscape changed forever. Thanks to the playing of Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene and Space's Magic Fly on television I was from then on enchanted by electronic music. So imagine my delight on discovering the original videos of those French artists on YouTube:
